Is organic food safer than conventional?
Recent headlines like “Study Says Little Benefit to Organic Food” (http://news.aol.com/health/article/study-organic-food-not-more-healthy/596509, 7/30/09) are not only misleading but wrong.
They say “A new study from British researchers … shows little nutritional difference between organic and conventionally grown foods.”
The misleading part about this statement is that organic food is NOT SUPPOSED to have more nutrient content!
What they ignore is the fact that organic foods have LOWER PESTICIDE levels!
Pesticides are poisons, designed to kill insects; most pesticides are also toxic to humans, in more than one way: not only are they acutely poisonous in high concentrations, but most are also proven to cause cancer and other health problems in humans.
Most people eat organic food to REDUCE pesticide intake, NOT to increase nutrients.
See: http://www.foodnews.org/reduce.php for information about pesticide levels in conventional foods.
THANK YOU!!! Yes, organic food IS safer and healthier! The commercial produce not only has Pesticides, but also Nitrogen-based Fertilizers, and fungicides, all of which imitate estrogen in the human body (will make you both sick and fat),GMO seeds, and they are also allowed to be “irradiated” to make it “safer.” The nitrogen based fertilizers are now pouring into the oceans, and turning the fish female.
Here’s the thing with irradiation: it doesn’t selectively kill just bacteria, it destroys the food itself. If the stuff that lives on dead skin cells and soap scum on my shower floor won’t eat irradiated food, do you think it actually continues to have any nutritional value?
msnbc.com reported on the study. Who are the main sponsors/advertisers for NBC and MSNBC? Ummmm, drug companies maybe?
Who paid for the study itself?
What was the criteria they used to determine the differences between organic and commercial foods?
What vectors were measured?
How were confounders controlled for/eliminated/ignored?
This is just more of the same nonsense. Dig deeply enough, and you will find Monsanto or Cargill or other agribusiness behind this “research.”
Why are Americans the fattest nation in the world, when we spend $35 Billion per year on diet products, and half of all adult Americans are on a diet at any given time? Why are 65% of all Americans overweight despite all of the money and effort they expend to lose the weight? Why, according to the CIA are we ranked 50th in Life Expectancy among developed nations?
Could there possibly be something wrong with our “conventional” food supply?
How is it that dousing our food in toxic chemicals while it is growing, and splicing pig genes into tomato seeds is “conventional?”
Can anyone say “DoubleSpeak?” It’s like saying our government is implementing “Healthcare Reform” when we have a broken, corrupt disease management and drug dispensing system. There is no “Health” no “Care” and no “Reform” in the proposed program. Of the trillion dollar plus “healthcare” budget, less than 0.08% is earmarked for natural medicine, even though it has been long proven to be both safe and effective (which certainly cannot be said for the drugs being pushed on every major TV network during commercial breaks . . .)
Thanks again for the spark of sanity. Maybe if enough of us speak loudly enough and long enough, we won’t be such solitary voices of reason any longer.
Kudos to you!
Respectfully,
Dr. Kim
